Commercial Forestry

Past, current and future development plans for Waipapa 9 Trust Forest Resource have a basic three fold purpose:

  • Water and soil conservation
  • Utilisation of land not suitable or not required for farming operations providing alternative income for the Trust
  • To assist in decreasing the percentage of nitrate leaching into the waterways

The Trust has 235.5 ha of forestry, mainly Pinus Radiata (of which 70.5 ha have been harvested) with small stands of Larch, Eucalyptus and Japanese Cedar (chryptomeria japonica).


Takapau Station

  • 122.5 ha (actual effective forested areas)
  • Eucalyptus: 1.7 ha
  • Larch: 3.5 ha
  • Harvested: 41 ha Pinus Radiata

Otanepae Station

  • 34 (actual effective forested areas)
  • Harvested: 26.5 ha
  • Remaining Radiata: 7.5 ha

Waipapa Station

  • Pinus Radiata: 76 ha (previously recorded 79 ha)
  • Harvested: 3 ha
